Cake Care Instructions
If storing the cake before your event, be sure to keep it in the fridge - not in the freezer.
Buttercream and high temperatures do not go well together. Be sure you have arrangements to keep the cake in the shade when outdoors and chilling in a fridge until it is needed. It is not recommended to place a cake near a fireplace, in direct sunlight, or other warm areas.
If transporting your cake, be sure the box is placed on a flat and sturdy surface such as the floor or a flat trunk. Car should be kept as cool as possible during transportation. Driver should be cautious and drive slowly. Bakes and Cakes is not held liable for any damages to the cake during transportation of the cake by the client.
Be sure to check that the cake table is on an even surface and isn’t wobbly. If using a cake stand, be sure the stand is sturdy enough to hold the weight of the cake. It is highly recommended that the cake stand be 2 inches wider than the base of the cake.
Cake should not be placed in high traffic areas, next to large speakers, or other types of movement that could damage the cake.
When assigning someone to cut the cake, I recommend someone who isn’t in the wedding party or immediate family. Be sure to ask someone who won’t be taking full advantage of the bar and will be able to follow the cake cutting guide to ensure you get the servings out of your cake that was ordered.
When cutting into tiered cakes, be aware that there are wooden dowels supporting the tiers. These will be found toward the center of each cake and will need to be removed before being sliced for serving.
A cutting board, sharp knife, and warm water are really helpful for cutting large/tiered cakes! Check out my cake cutting tips in Instagram Highlights or watch this short 4 minute video.
